The cause of a fire that destroyed an Oelwein home remains under investigation.

Firefighters from Oelwein were called out, initially at about 4am Tuesday, to a residence at 222 7th Avenue SW.

The call indicated a garage was on fire, but when crews arrived, they found the home ablaze.

The structure was owned by Nancy Lindsey, although no one had been living there at the time of the fire.

The blaze was brought under control Tuesday morning; but firecrews had to be called back a couple of times during the day to douse hot spots.

No one was hurt; the home was deemed a total loss.

The origin of the fire is under investigation by the Oelwein Fire Chief and State Fire Marshall.
