New Flood Stage Levels Push Towards Record Crests

The National Weather Service recently updated the Cedar River crest levels. The new high marks are pushing closer to record levels.

In Cedar Falls at 2:45 PM, the river level was measured at 95.71 feet or 7.71 feet over flood stage. The new forecast level has been raised to 100.8 feet. The record of 102.1 feet was set on June 10, 2008. The 2016 crest is projected to hit Saturday afternoon.

In Waterloo at 3:00 PM, the Cedar River had risen to 16.38 feet or 3.38 feet over flood stage. The NWS has increased the high water mark to 26.4 feet. That is only 0.6 feet from the 2008 record (June 11) of 27.0 feet. The 2016 crest is projected to hit Saturday night.

In Vinton at 3:15 PM, the current level was 11.6 feet or 3.4 feet below flood stage. 23.1 feet is the new projected crest level. On June 12, 2008, the record of 24.7 feet was set. The 2016 crest is projected to hit Monday night.
