A Northeast Iowa registered sex offender is in jail today, after he cut off his tracking device, and did not come back to a residential facility.

At about 12:11am today (Monday), the West Union Police Department and Fayette County Sheriff, were notified that 26 year old David Matthews of West Union, had failed to return to the West Union Residential Facility, after being on work release.

Matthews, a registered sex offender, had cut off his GPS tracking device.

He later turned himself in to the residential facility. Matthews was then taken to the Fayette County jail in West Union, where he is being held on a temporary confinement order.

The incident remains under investigation.
