An elderly Charles City woman, who was struck by a vehicle driven by the Charles City Fire Chief, is reported in fair condition at an area hospital.

86 year old Gladys Kellogg was in the process of crossing Clark Street in Charles City, at about 1pm Tuesday. She had a green light and was walking in a crosswalk.

Fire Chief Eric Whipple had been stopped at the intersection of North Main and Clark Street, and had a green light to turn left. Whipple told authorities that he did not see Kellogg crossing the road, and collided with her.

He was driving a department vehicle, but was not on his way to an emergency or fire.

Kellogg was taken to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where she remains in fair condition.

No charges have been filed, but it is under investigation by the Floyd County Sheriff.
