A Masonville man is being held in the Buchanan County jail in Independence, faced with several charges of sexual abuse involving a young child, then fleeing the state to avoid arrest.

The investigation began in August of 2014, when the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office received a report of sexual assaults that took place in Winthrop, from February of 2002 to February of 2008.

37 year old Joshua Jarrett of Masonville is accused of sexually abusing a six year old beginning in 2002, and continued the abuse until the child turned 14 years old.

When authorities began the investigation, Jarrett fled Iowa, but was tracked by law enforcement through several states, until his arrest in Rockwall, Texas on March 17th. Rockwall is a suburb of Dallas.

Jarrett has waived extradition and was brought back to Buchanan County on Friday (March 27th), where he is being held on $250,000 bond.

Jarrett is being charged with four counts of sexual abuse in the second degree, four counts of sexual abuse in the third degree, and one count of avoidance of prosecution.
