Authorities are investigating the death of a northeast Iowa woman who died while rafting in central Colorado on Sunday (May 22, 2016).

Fremont County sheriff's officials identified the victim as Debra Brymer, 60, of Nashua. In a news release, they said she was on a trip with her husband and grandson when Brymer fell out of the raft and then stopped breathing.

The incident happened on the Arkansas River near Cañon City, which is southwest of Colorado Springs.

According to the Cañon City Daily Record, the staff at a local rafting company was able to get Brymer back into the water craft, but she was not breathing at the time. Efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.

The newspaper reported that Brymer was pronounced dead at the scene. The local coroner told the Daily Record that he believes Brymer went into cardiac arrest or drowned, but an autopsy will determine the cause of her death.
