Vehicle traffic should expect delays in Black Hawk and surrounding counties as the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa – RAGBRAI® – makes an overnight stop in Cedar Falls on Wednesday (July 22, 2015).

Approximately 15,000 bicyclists will be converging on the University of Northern Iowa campus for the overnight stop. RAGBRAI XLIII (43) features a 462-mile route that started Sunday in Sioux City and ends in Davenport on Saturday.

On Wednesday -- day four of the week-long event -- riders will peddle 57.6 miles from Eldora to Cedar Falls, before Thursday's 69.6-mile leg from Cedar Falls to Hiawatha. As RAGBRAI comes through the area, vehicle traffic should expect delays. Motorists should find alternate routes to avoid delays. The complete route in and out of the Cedar Valley is posted below.

The riders will enter Black Hawk County from New Hartford using County Road T-55, then travel east on Beaver Valley Road or C-67, then travel south on Union Road or T-75. The RAGBRAI route will continue south on Union Road, crossing Iowa Highway 57 (W. 1st Street) to W. 27th Street. The riders will then turn east onto W. 27th Street, arriving at UNI. For campus map, CLICK HERE.

W. 27th Street will be closed to vehicle traffic during the arrival of the bicyclists. Police officials expect bike riders will begin arriving in Cedar Falls before 8 a.m. until around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Riders will be leaving Cedar Falls on Thursday using W. 27th Street to Hudson Road, heading south on Hudson Road until they reach the city limits. One southbound lane of Hudson Road from W. 27th Street to the southern Cedar Falls border will be coned off and designated for bicyclists only.

Again, vehicle traffic that usually travels Hudson Road should find an alternate route. RAGBRAI officials are requesting that employees who work at industrial park businesses west of Hudson Road use Union Road to get to work. Employees of businesses east of Hudson Road should use Iowa Highway 58.

Cedar Falls police expect the bike traffic to begin around 3 a.m. on Thursday and last until around 10 a.m.
