Man Jailed for Early Morning Sex Assault

An area man is jailed following an early morning sexual assault in Elgin.

At about 3:30am today (Thursday, June 23) the Fayette County Sheriff got a report of an alleged sexual assault at a residence in Elgin.

A 45 year old woman was in her home, when 49 year old Devin Cummings of Cedar Rapids is accused of sexually assaulting her.

Cummings was arrested and charged with 3rd degree sexual abuse, a class "C" felony.

He is being held in the Fayette County jail until his initial court appearance.

The victim, whose name is not being released, was taken to Palmer Hospital in West Union, where she was treated and put in contact with victim services.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, the case remains under investigation, and more charges could be filed at a later date.
