A Waterloo man is facing charges connected to a grocery store robbery in the city late last year.

On Tuesday (Jan. 5, 2016), police arrested Charles Earl Jones, 21, on multiple charges linked to a hold-up at Save More Foods on Franklin St. Officers were called to the store on Nov. 18, 2015, after a man walked into the business with a gun and exchanged fire with an armed employee.

About 15 minutes after the robbery, Jones reported that he suffered a gunshot wound near W. 9th and Leavitt streets on the other side of town. But, according to police, he lied about the location of the shooting.

Police said while investigating the robbery, they discovered evidence that linked Jones to the crime. They believe he was shot while trying to rob the store.

Jones is now facing several charges, including first-degree robbery, going armed with intent, carrying weapons, and intimidation with a dangerous weapon. He's also charged with filing a false report in connection with the shooting location.
