Traffic is being detoured off the primary east-west route through the city of Waverly for the next three months.

Work is underway to reconstruct a box culvert over Dry Run Creek, which runs through the center of town. City officials closed a one-block segment of Iowa Highway 3 (W. Bremer Ave.) when the project began on Monday (April 4, 2016).

All local businesses are still accessible by vehicle using W. Bremer.

There is a formal, signed detour route directing traffic to use 4th St. SW (Business U.S. Highway 218) and 10th Ave. SW. Local motorists, however, can use other residential streets to get around the construction site.

According to Waverly public works officials, a four-way stop will be in place at 4th St. SW and 5th Ave. SW near Memorial Park while W. Bremer is closed. The project is scheduled to be complete in early July, weather permitting.

As part of the Dry Run Creek reconstruction project, 2nd Ave. NW and 3rd Ave. NW are also currently closed between 6th St. NW and 5th St. NW.
