Clarksville's Maddie Poppe is on the verge of becoming the next American Idol! The 20-year-old advanced to the "Idol" finale Sunday night, and will be returning to her home state this week.

Maddie received a standing ovation following her performance of Carrie Underwood's "I Told You So." Among the judges' praises were these strong words from Katy Perry:

I was in your world. I thought maybe I was at your concert. Like, all of time stood still. I'm such a huge fan of you...I just wanna hear a record of yours real quick, so whatever happens, just put it out.

While Maddie isn't the textbook definition of a "country artist" she seems to have mastered the art of storytelling that so many country music greats are known for. She's made a clear connection with the audience that few other contestants have throughout this season.

Maddie's other performance Sunday night closed out the show. It was a stirring rendition of "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys, which she dedicated to her mom.

The fans voted her through to the "Idol" finale next week, and she'll need your votes now more than ever! But before that, Maddie will be visiting her hometown on Tuesday. The festivities will begin with a parade through downtown Clarksville at 5:00 pm, followed by a free performance by Maddie at the Butler County Fairgrounds at 6:30.

The parade and concert will take place rain or shine, and ABC's "Idol" cameras will be there to chronicle the visit. If you'd like to show your support you can get more details on the event HERE. Congratulations to Maddie!
