The man in charge of the athletic department at Iowa State University is hospitalized in Waterloo, recovering from a heart attack.

According to a statement released by Iowa State University, Athletic Director Jamie Pollard, 50, was rushed to Allen Hospital from Cedar Falls Monday afternoon (March 9). School officials say Pollard suffered a heart attack while watching his daughters compete in the Dickinson Relays, a high school track meet held in the UNI-Dome on the University of Northern Iowa campus.

Hospital officials declined to give any information on Pollard's condition. Iowa State athletic officials said he was held overnight for observation and treatment and remains hospitalized at Allen today.

Pollard has served as Iowa State's athletic director since Oct. 1, 2005. Iowa State President Steven Leath has appointed David Harris to serve as the school's acting A.D. while Pollard recuperates. Harris is the Senior Associate Athletics Director at Iowa State.

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard was taken by ambulance Monday afternoon to Allen Hospital in Waterloo. He suffered a heart attack while watching his daughters compete in the Girls Varsity Invitational track meet on the UNI Campus.

Pollard spent Monday night in the hospital for observation and treatment. He remains hospitalized at Allen today.

Iowa State President Steven Leath has appointed Senior Associate Athletics Director David Harris the acting AD while Pollard recuperates.
