Iowa High School Volleyball Rankings - Thursday, October 9, 2014

A dozen area teams are featured in the seventh volleyball rankings of the season released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union on Thursday (October 9, 2014).

As expected, there was a change at the top of the Class-2A poll. Three-time defending state champion Dike-New Hartford has regained the top spot after beating previous No. 1 Sumner-Fredericksburg in a three-set match Tuesday evening. The Cougars fell only one spot to No. 2 following the loss and switched places with their North Iowa Cedar League (NICL) East Division rival.

Two other NICL teams are ranked among the top 15 in Class-2A. Grundy Center remains seventh and Wapsie Valley stays at No. 11.

The Iowa Star Conference has a pair of teams ranked among the top five in Class-1A. Those squads are third-ranked Janesville and fourth-rated Tripoli. Another ranked team from Northeast Iowa is Turkey Valley, which remains ninth.

Independence, Iowa Falls-Alden and La Porte City Union are all ranked higher than 10th in Class-3A, while West Delaware and Charles City are both ranked in the upper half of the Class-4A poll.

West Delaware (29-0) is one of only three unbeaten teams remaining in the state.
