The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) has placed the Tigers, Trojans and Wahawks in Class-4A District 5.  The grouping also includes Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Linn-Mar of Marion.  Each of the six teams will face each other during the nine-game regular season.  The top four finishers in the district will qualify for the 32-team playoff field.

All six district teams will play four other regular-season games that will have no impact on the playoffs. State-wide, Class-4A has 46 teams that will be competing for a post-season berth.

Waterloo’s third high school – Columbus Catholic – has been playing district football since 1992. The Sailors have been assigned to Class-2A District 3. Five other teams are in the district.

The IHSAA schedules all games for each of its 362 football-playing schools. While the district groupings were released on Thursday (January 23, 2014), schedules won’t be released until early February.
