If the weather allows, a detour change will occur in downtown Waterloo on Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2017).

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT), southbound U.S. Highway 63 traffic that's currently using Jefferson St. will be re-routed on Commercial St. to the U.S. Highway 218 interchange near Westfield Ave., which takes drivers past the John Deere Waterloo Works building. The new detour route is scheduled to be in effect until mid-November (see map below, click to enlarge).

The detour switch will allow workers to reconstruct the Jefferson St.-W. Mullan Ave. intersection, IDOT officials said. The work is being done as part of the two-year reconstruction of U.S. 63 between Franklin and Jefferson streets in Waterloo.

IDOT officials initially announced the detour switch would occur Monday morning, but weekend rain forced them to delay the traffic change for one day.
