On March 31, 2014, at approximately 12:15 A.M., Black Hawk County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the area of Interstate 380 near mile marker 61 on a report of a semi- tractor and trailer that was on its side.

During the investigation, Deputies discovered that the semi-tractor, driven by Thomas Talkington of Illinois, was traveling north bound when he swerved to avoid hitting several deer that were crossing the interstate in front of him.  The semi-tractor left the roadway and rolled onto its side partially in the east ditch. Talkington was not injured and was able to free himself from the vehicle.  The north bound lanes of Interstate 380 were closed for a short period of time while the semi-tractor was righted and removed.

Deputies were assisted by the Evansdale Police Department, Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcment and Gilbertville Fire Department.
