High School Football Rankings – Monday, September 8, 2014

With two weeks of the 2014 season complete, 11 Northeast Iowa teams are ranked in the latest Associated Press high school football poll released on Monday (September 8).

The highest-rated team is defending eight-player state champion Don Bosco. The Dons remain top-ranked following a pair of lop-sided victories over Midland of Wyoming and Springville. The 8-player poll also features 5th-ranked Janesville and 7th-ranked Turkey Valley of Jackson Junction. Central Community of Elkader just missed the rankings and is the top team among the others receiving votes.

In Class-A, AGWSR of Ackley is third and Nashua-Plainfield is sixth. Both teams moved up one spot from last week. Gladbrook-Reineck debuts at number eight after last week's upset of Class-1A Dike-New Hartford, which was ranked among the top 10. Wapsie Valley fell out of this weeks rankings, but the Warriors and BCLUW of Conrad are both among the honorable mention teams.

South Winneshiek of Calmar is the second-ranked team in Class-1A for a second-straight week. The Warriors are the only team from Northeast Iowa ranked among the top 10, but Sumner-Fredericksburg and Dike-New Harford are receiving votes.

North Fayette Valley of West Union and New Hampton have trades spots in the Class-2A ratings. New Fayette Valley replaces the Chickasaws at number two. New Hampton falls to third, the spot held by the TigerHawks last week.

The Class-3A rankings feature a pair of area teams. West Delaware of Manchester is fourth and Waverly-Shell Rock is fifth.
