Four area teams are ranked in this week’s Iowa high school boys basketball poll, released by the Associated Press on Monday (February 3, 2014). Waverly-Shell Rock, New Hampton, Dunkerton, and Gladbrook-Reinbeck are among the 40 teams considered the best in the state right now.Waverly-Shell Rock enters the week with a 12-3 record. The Go-Hawks are currently ranked fifth in Class-3A. That’s two spots higher than their ranking last week.

New Hampton is the highest rated team among the four. The Chickasaws are ranked second in Class-2A, the same spot they held last week. New Hampton enters the week with a 15-0 mark.

Dunkerton and Gladbrook-Reinbeck are both ranked in Class-1A. Dunkerton (16-1 overall) is rated sixth this week, which is down one spot from a week ago. Gladbrook-Reinbeck, unranked last week, is 10th this week. The Rebels are 15-2.

Two other area teams are under consideration to be ranked, but didn’t get enough votes to crack the top 10. The teams are Dike-New Hartford in Class-2A and Jesup in Class-1A, which would both be ranked 14th if the polls extended beyond 10 teams.
