U2 has released a live video for the first song from their long-awaited album Songs of Experience.

Unsurprisingly, the song is overtly political. “Statues fall, democracy’s flat its back, Jack / We had it all and what we had is not coming back," Bono sings of taking what we had for granted.

The band also plans to release the first official single from Songs of Experience, "You're the Best Thing About Me," on Sept. 6. That day, they'll also share additional information about the album itself.

Back in May, U2 debuted another Experience track, "The Little Things That Give You Away," during the first show of their recent world tour.

Songs of Experience is a companion album to the band's 2014 record Songs of InnocenceThe album had been expected earlier this year but the band put it aside to focus on the Joshua Tree 2017 tour. Frontman Bono has said the break has improved the album.

“The band will tell you not to listen to me on those kind of matters since I thought it was done last year,” he said when asked to describe the status of the album. “But I think the pause has made it better. I will give them that. But if you left it to Edge he’d still be remixing it next year. But we have these songs. The problem is we have 15 songs and to get them down to 12. We don’t like long players.”

A release date of Dec. 1 was recently leaked, but that information has not been confirmed.
