Some Northeast Iowa residents experienced a very loud downpour when a small band of thunderstorms pelted the area with large hail Thursday afternoon (March 23, 2017).

The quick downpours swept through Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Clayton and Fayette counties, depositing some rain, and a fair amount of hail.

Hailstones the size of golf balls, and larger, dropped onto Denver, Oelwein and Strawberry Point, and prompted thunderstorm warnings from the National Weather Service.

There were numerous reports of pea-, penny-, and dime-size hail around the area.

The short-lived storms moved east out of Iowa, into southwest Wisconsin Thursday evening.

There were no reports of injuries or major damage.
