A former Waterloo man has pleaded not guilty to allegations that he shot and killed his girlfriend. Ronald Rand, 61, entered the plea on a first-degree degree murder charge on Tuesday (Jan. 12, 2016).

Authorities believe Rand shot his 51-year-old girlfriend, Michelle Key, of Waterloo, at his home in Hampton on Dec. 13. According to court records, Rand told officers he and Key were arguing before she was shot.

Rand testified that he lived in Hampton, but used to live in Waterloo.

A Franklin County judge set Rand's bond at $1 million. His trial date has not yet been scheduled.
