Former Waterloo East wrestler Kyven Gadson won a NCAA Wrestling Championship. Gadson (Iowa State) pinned Kyle Snyder (Ohio State) for the 197 pound 2015 NCAA National Championship.

After a scoreless forst period, Snyder scored the first point of match via an escape five seconds into the second period.

Gadson did not panick. Infact, he began to increase his intensity during the final moments of the second period. Snyder had Gadson's legged tied up, but the former Trojan was able to break free.

That is when Gadson threw Snyder off of a backside trip, sending the Buckeye to the mat. The Waterloo native would bring both of Snyder’s shoulders to the flat, securing the fall in 4:26.

It was the only championship match that ended by fall.

Gadson’s father, Willie, was a two-time All-American (1975 and 1976) for Iowa State. He died a day after Kyven won the 2013 Big 12 title.

The former Waterloo East Trojan became the 45th wrestler in Iowa State history to earn All-American status three or more times. Gadson's 2015 title marks the 69th national championship for the Iowa State Cyclones' wrestling program.

Overall, Iowa State finished the 2015 NCAA Wrestling Championships in 14th place scoring 39 points. Ohio State won the team championship with 102 points.
