A former Charles City schools administrator has resigned from his most-recent job in Central Iowa following a third arrest for alleged drunken driving.

Marty Lucas, 61, of Charles City, was taken into custody following a traffic stop in Grundy Center on Thursday (June 18, 2015). According to Grundy County sheriff's officials, his blood alcohol content was .224, nearly three times the legal limit for driving.

Authorities said Lucas was charged with operating while under the influence (OWI), second offense. Court records show he's been arrested two previous times for a similar offense.

Lucas was first charged with drunken driven in July 1999 when he was superintendent in Charles City. He received a deferred judgement and a year of probation. He was not penalized by the school district.

In February of 2008, Lucas was arrested for OWI again following an accident in Benton County. Lucas was charged after his vehicle and the U-Haul he was pulling left ice-covered Interstate 380 and ended up in a ditch.

Lucas was superintendent of schools in Bettendorf at the time of his second arrest. He later resigned the position after pleading guilty to the Benton County charge.

In 2011, Lucas was hired to lead the Colfax-Mingo School District in central Iowa. He resigned as superintendent on Monday, following his latest arrest.

Lucas recently announced his plans to retire as Colfax-Mingo's superintendent following the 2015-16 academic year.
