It's been about 4 years since former Hawkeye football player Brett Greenwood collapsed during a routine workout. Recovering from what happened has been difficult. But, it's also being used as an inspiration to others.

Here's how the Brett Greenwood Foundation website describes what happened to Brett:

On September 9 Brett Greenwood, former Hawkeye football player, collapsed during a routine workout. Brett had developed an abnormal heart rhythm, which caused his heart to stop, resulting in serious neurological injuries. Brett is recovering and working hard to regain his strength and mobility. We are thankful to the many, many people from across the country who have reached out to us. Because so many of you expressed a desire to support Brett in a tangible way, we have established the Brett Greenwood Foundation. The donations made to the Brett Greenwood Foundation will go into a fund that will be used to support the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where Brett was treated, and the Hawkeye Athletics Department in the form of an Endowed Scholarship in Brett’s name. Our heartfelt thanks for your continued support and prayers. The Greenwood Family - Brett Greenwood Foundation

This man is a true inspiration. Not only is he trudging painfully through is own reality, he is also providing a role-model for those who are recovering from their own life experiences. This is what it means to be a TRUE HAWKEYE! Hard work, dedication and never losing sight of the goal.

Mr. Greenwood, if we had the chance to see you in person, we would shake your hand and express our deepest pride. We're proud to be able to witness your recovery and we wish you nothing but success and love.
