Former Area Man Killed In Wyoming Bicycle Accident

A former Iowa man with Waverly ties, has died in a traffic accident in Wyoming.

Douglas Voigts, 60, of Cheyenne, Wyo., was riding his bicycle in the Cheyenne late Monday afternoon, (May 30, 2016), when he attempted to cross a highway, but was struck by an SUV. Voigts was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Voigts was a graduate of Wartburg College and formerly worked for the post office in Des Moines, before moving to Wyoming. His father and one of a sister still live in Waverly.

A memorial service for Voigts has been scheduled for Monday (June 13) in Waverly.
