Two Shot in Florida Movie Theater After Dispute Over Texting During ‘Lone Survivor’

Universal

We think that talking or texting during a movie is the epitome of rudeness and shouldn’t be tolerated in any way. While we fully support hushing and zero-tolerance policies that eject talkers from theaters, we draw the line at physical violence and we imagine that even the most ardent movie fans would agree.

Well, it turns out that one man thought even more strongly about this than we did and took it to a tragic level.

The story sounds like a joke at first glance. One moviegoer got so enraged by another man’s texting during a screening of ‘Lone Survivor‘ in a Florida theater that he pulled out a gun and shot the man responsible and his wife. The woman survived, but the man died while being airlifted to a local hospital. Another theatergoer managed to detain the gunman until the police arrived, when he was questioned and taken into custody.

According to FOX 13 in Tampa Bay, the shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. at the Cobb CineBistro at Grove 16 complex on Wesley Grove Blvd. According to witnesses, the screening of ‘Lone Survivor’ hadn’t even begun.

This isn’t the first time violence has erupted in a movie theater and, unfortunately, it certainly won’t be the last. A local Tampa sheriff told reporters, “It’s absolutely crazy it would rise to this level over somebody just texting in a movie theater.”

We’ve long preached to your leave your phone off while in a movie theater and maybe you also leave your gun at home or in your car while going to see a movie.
