Flannagan Holds Off Pack for Win at Independence

The Burco Sales Weekly Points Opener Night (April 23) kicked off the quest for the 2016 track championships at the Independence Motor Speedway.

Patrick Flannagan started twelfth, but he made his way by race leader Zach Less while working to complete lap nine. Ronn Lauritzen and Scott Hogan worked their way towards the front late in the 20-lap main event to challenge the top two for the race win. When the checkered flag waved, Flannagan crossed the line first. Less, Lauritzen, and Hogan followed him across the line. Vern Jackson rounded out the top five.

John Emerson had to deal with heavy pressure from Darren Ackerman in the closing laps of the Budweiser IMCA Late Model A-Main. Despite a series of cautions flags that tightened the field late, Emerson held on for the win. Ackerman settled for second. Tenth place starter Tyler Droste finished third. Travis Smock and Tyler Bruening rounded out the top five.

During the Burco Sales IMCA Stock Car feature, a series of caution flags plagued the field as they tried to complete lap eleven. Roger Ciesielski was able to put himself upfront when the racing was finally able to get a rhythm. Ciesielski lead the field to the checkered flag. Pole-sitter Cole Mather came home second followed by Norman Chesmore, Jarod Weepie, and Chris Luloff.

The Olson & Olson show entertained the crowd in the final laps of the Albert Auto IMCA SportMod A-Main. Kyle Olson had opened up a commanding lead only to see it erased when a yellow flag waved on lap twelve. Tony Olson tried to get by, but Kyle Olson took the win. Tony Olson followed Kyle across the line. Tyler Soppe finished third, and Ryan King along with Danny Dvorak finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Benji Irvine topped the Christie Door Co. IMCA Hobby Stock 15-lap feature. Ninth place starter Justin Lichty was a close second. Pole-sitter Leah Wroten held on for third.

Don Erger took the win in the RCZ Enterprises main event.

The Indee Racing Series continues on Saturday, April 30 at the Independence Motor Speedway. Gates open at 4:30. Hot laps are slated for 6:30 PM with racing to follow.
