Authorities are reporting an apparent drowning on the Cedar River.

According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday (March 22), a fisherman fell out of his boat on the river at Charles City, then went over a dam.  The boat had been anchored above the low-head dam on the Cedar River.

Rescue workers pulled the man out of the river, downstream from the dam.  He was taken to the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City, and pronounced dead.

The incident is under investigation by the Iowa DNR, with assistance from the Floyd County sheriff's officials and Charles City police.

The victim's name is being withheld until relatives can be notified.
