FX and Tom Hardy’s Taboo will need all the trailers and footage it can get for audience to make any sense of its concept, though “sense” is nowhere to be found in the first official clip. Watch Hardy give some good crazy in an effort to reclaim a brothel, as we get closer to the Ridley Scott miniseries’ January 2017 premiere.

Seeing as The BBC will get the Taboo premiere days earlier on January 7 (FX will debut the series on January 10), the U.K. network provided a first clip featuring Hardy’s James Keziah Delaney attempting to reclaim some of his father’s property:

The series stems from an idea between Hardy and his father Chips, starring House of Cards vet Michael Kelly, Game of Thrones stars Jonathan Pryce and Oona Chaplin, Pirates alum Tom Hollander, Boardwalk Empire criminal Stephen Graham, Sherlock writer Mark Gatiss, Franka Potente, David Hayman and more. So reads the official synopsis:

Set in 1814, Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney, a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. But his father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. Encircled by conspiracy, murder, and betrayal, a dark family mystery unfolds in a combustible tale of love and treachery.

Hardy also executive produces with Ridley Scott and Locke alum Steven Knight. Watch a new trailer below, and stay tuned for more.
