Investigators from the State Fire Marshal's office are being called in to help determine the cause of a blaze that gutted a city-owned building in Cedar Falls late Sunday morning (Nov. 6, 2016).

Firefighters were called to the structure off E. 5th St. near Viking Pump around 11 a.m. and found the building completely engulfed when they arrived. The fire sent thick smoke billowing across downtown Cedar Falls.

Officials said the fire destroyed the building and its contents. The structure was used by Cedar Falls police to store confiscated property and other equipment.
