An Evansdale business was heavily damaged by a fire late Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 30, 2016).

Investigators don't yet know what started the fire, which gutted a building at R & M Metals in the city's industrial park across from Evansdale City Hall.

Multiple fire units were called to the scene. When they arrived, firefighters saw thick, black smoke billowing from the building.

According to Evansdale fire officials, no one was inside the business when it caught fire and no one was injured.

Investigators plan to return to the damaged structure on Wednesday in an attempt to determine the cause.
