Finnish Band Steve ‘n’ Seagulls Offer Unconventional Cover of Iron Maiden Classic

These dudes may look a bit goofy at first, but don’t be fooled, they’re fantastic musicians. In fact, they’re so talented that they took Iron Maiden‘s ‘The Trooper,’ unplugged the electricity and rocked an awesome cover on instruments normally reserved for bluegrass music rather than metal.

The men who await your applause are the Finnish musicians of Steve ‘n’ Seagulls, which may be the greatest band name in history. The five-piece act consists of an acoustic guitarist who also leads on vocals, a banjo player, a dude wearing overalls and a Native American headdress playing mandolin, a double-bassist and a man with very exposed legs playing a cajon drum.

The cover of ‘The Trooper’ works as a novelty at first, but when you actually hear Steve ‘N’ Seagulls perform, you’ll be blown away by how cool it actually is. These guys remain air-tight as their lead singer offers a sweeter take on Bruce Dickinson‘s soaring vocals. Of course, what would an Iron Maiden cover be without the guitar solos? The band’s banjo player doesn’t follow the track’s legendary solos at all, but he lets rip a few measures that fit surprisingly well.

Don’t just take our word for it, watch Steve ‘N’ Seagulls jam Iron Maiden’s ‘The Trooper’ in the video above!
