Federal authorities are looking for a suspect who escaped apprehension following a traffic stop in Waterloo Tuesday morning (Dec. 8, 2015).

According to Waterloo police chief Dan Trelka, members of a U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) task force were conducting a fugitive investigation in the city around 10 a.m., when the vehicle took off and fled the area. Authorities were still looking for the driver late Wednesday night.

During the traffic stop, Trelka said one of the federal officers discharged a firearm in the line-of-duty.

According to Trelka, local officers assisted federal agents in the search for the driver. No Waterloo police personnel were involved in the vehicle stop.

Trelka said the ongoing investigation is being conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service.
