A Bremer County man was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Waterloo Monday morning (July 11, 2016).

Officers responded to the fatal crash at the intersection of Dysart and East Orange Roads just before 10 a.m. The accident involved a van and a Freightliner tractor-trailer.

According to police, the driver of the van was northbound on Dysart Road and began to turn left onto East Orange Road after stopping at a stop sign. Police said the van was then struck by the semi, which was southbound on Dysart Road and failed to stop at the intersection.

Waterloo Police Captain Dave Mohlis said the driver of the van suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Mohlis identified the victim as a Denver resident, but did not release the man's name. He said the driver of the Freightliner received minor injuries and was cited for failing to stop at the stop sign.

The accident remains under investigation by Waterloo police.
