Ex-Mayor of Oelwein Pleads

Former Oelwein mayor Jason Manus has pleaded not guilty to sexually abusing two young girls.

The 36 year old Manus appeared in Fayette County District court Wednesday morning, to answer to 5 counts of sexual abuse involving two girls, ages 9 and 14, in incidents that happened 4 years ago at a home in Oelwein.

After Manus was initially arrested last month and released on bond, he resigned as Oelwein's mayor. A special election to fill his seat is set for next month.

Manus' trial was set for October 8th, with a pre-trial conference scheduled for September 29th.
