Wins over visiting Ohio and South Dakota State on Saturday would give UNI the best start to the wrestling season in 45 years.
UNI’s wrestling team is undefeated after seven duals. The last time the Panthers had a better streak was 1969. The team was 8-0 and had to settle for a tie in its ninth dual. In 1970, UNI was 7-0-1 in its first eight duals. UNI is among just three teams ranked in the top five that are still undefeated.
The triangular gets underway at noon with Ohio and South Dakota. The Panthers’ first dual starts at 2 p.m. against Ohio, and the day ends with the South Dakota vs. UNI dual at 4 p.m.
Ohio is coming off a three-dual win streak, with its only losses to Central Michigan (19-15) and Missouri (23-10).
South Dakota State also has won its last three duals. The Jackrabbits have three losses this season: North Dakota State beat SDSU, 30-13; Nebraska won its bout with SDSU, 36-13; Drexel won, 26-10.
