Emerson & Irvine Got Back-To-Back at Independence
John Emerson and Benji Irvine score back-to-back wins at the Independence Motor Speedway on May 7, 2016.
EMERSON GOES BACK-TO-BACK
John Emerson won his second straight IMCA Budweiser Late Model feature. After starting twelfth, Emerson quickly moved forward. When a lap six caution waved, he had already moved into sixth place. Early race leader Tyler Bruening opened a comfortable lead when the green returned. Emerson moved through the pack, and he caught Bruening on lap 13. It took a few laps but, Emerson slipped by for the lead. The second and final yellow flag came out while the field worked lap 17. Ryan Dolan and Tyler Droste passed Bruening on the restart, and they battle for second place. Emerson drove to the win. Droste finished second followed by Dolan, Bruening, and Jon Passick.
AURINGER TAKES MOD WIN
JD Auringer scored his first Indee Weekly Series win and second overall of the season. Auringer moved into the lead on lap 13. Despite a series of cautions that plagued the middle of the 20-lap IMCA Performance Bodies Modified A-Main, Auringer was able to pull away for the win. Ronn Lauritzen drove home second. The race for third was a three-wide affair across the finish line. Scott Hogan edged Mike Burbridge and Patrick Flannagan for third place finish.
Auringer won the $1,000 to win Spring Break Season Opener (non-weekly points night) on April 16.
TONY OLSON RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE
The defending IMCA Albert Auto SportMod champion earned his first Indee Weekly Series points win of the year. Olson took advantage of the series of caution flags to move quickly from his ninth place starting spot. Ross Neal finished second. Last week's Indee Weekly Series winner Kyle Olson finished third followed by Jacob Salisbury and Ryan King.
The 15-lap A-Main officially completed just 11 laps due to the time limit rule.
SCHMITT REBOUNDS FOR WIN
Tom Schmitt had a rough night on night one of the Indee Weekly Series, but the driver of the No. 18 rebounded and secured the win on night two. Jason Hocken raced in the top three for the entire 15-lap IMCA Burco Sales Stock Car feature, and he finished second. Jarod Weepie crossed the line in third. Justin Temeyer battled back from back to finish fourth. Phil Holtz rounded out the top five.
IRVINE SCORES SECOND WIN
Benji Irvine scored his second straight Indee Weekly Series win of the 2016 season in the Christie Door Company Hobby Stocks. Irvine started ninth, and he moved into the lead on lap nine. Justin Litchy took the green from the eighth starting position. Shawn Kuennen, Brett Vanous, and Leah Wroten completed the top five.
HILMER TAKES INDEE CAR WIN
Curt Hilmer climbed into an Indee Car for the first time during Busch Light Night at the Independence Motor Speedway. By race end, Himer drove into the Budweiser Victory Lane. Carson Less, Brady Kohrs, Jeff Davis, and Kaden Reynolds finished second through fifth respectively.
