East Iowa Woman Dies in Interstate Accident

An Eastern Iowa woman has died in a 3-vehicle accident near Coralville.

It happened just before 1pm Sunday in the eastbound lane of Interstate 80.

A vehicle driven by 54 year old Patricia Mittauer of Swisher, was traveling in lane 3 of the interstate, when she was rear-ended by a car driven by 20 year old Kaitlyn Richards of Coralville.

The impact pushed Mittauer's vehicle into lane 2, colliding with a semi driven by 25 year old Valeriu Buruiana of Woodridge, Illinois.

Patricia Mittauer was killed in the accident. Her 3 passengers were hospitalized with lesser injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
