5 Iowa counties are now under a burn ban, 3 of them in Northeast Iowa.

Due to dry and windy conditions, Lisa Roberts, the Emergency Management Coordinator for Fayette County, requested that a burn ban be put into place. The Iowa State Fire Marshall has proclaimed that Fayette County be under a burn ban as of 3pm Sunday (yesterday), which means no open burning is allowed, unless specifically permitted by Iowa code.

Also, effective at 12pm today (Monday), open burning in Bremer County is prohibited. The ban will be in effect until further notice.  And a burn ban has been proclaimed in Buchanan County, effective at 1pm Monday.

Burn bans have also been proclaimed for Franklin and Winnebago Counties in northern Iowa.
