Two women were injured Wednesday in a head-on collision on Iowa Highway 3 in Shell Rock.

Nicole Berends, 28, and Stephanie Lursen, 22, both of Allison, were taken to the Waverly hospital for treatment, the Iowa State Patrol said. Authorities did not disclose the extent of their injuries.

According to an accident report, Berends was going westbound on Iowa 3 and was attempting to turn north onto Butler County T-63 (North Public Road) when her van collided with Lursen’s eastbound car. State troopers said Berends didn’t see Lursen’s vehicle because her visibility was obstructed by an eastbound semi tractor-trailer that was turning south from Iowa 3.

Wednesday’s crash occurred just around 11:15 AM.
