Clean-up from the first major snowfall of the season will begin in the downtown area of Waterloo tonight (Monday, Dec. 12, 2016).

City workers plan to begin the project at 8 p.m. All vehicles parked on downtown streets must be moved to allow for effective snow removal.

According city officials, free parking is available in any of the downtown parking ramps until 7 a.m. Tuesday. Free parking is also available under the U.S. Highway 218 overpass.

Vehicles left unattended once the business area is closed will be towed, city officials said.

Local weather reports show that Waterloo received a total of four inches of snow from two storms systems that moved across the upper midwest over the weekend.
