DHS Takes Child For Exposure To Meth
A northeast Iowa couple are being charged with child endangerment, for allegedly exposing their young child to methamphetamine.
Fayette County sheriff's officials executed a search warrant at an apartment on South Vine Street in West Union on Monday (Oct. 29, 2018). The sheriff had obtained the warrant for a suspected drug trafficking operation.
Officers found meth in reach of a 2-year-old child in the home. As a result, the Iowa Department of Human Services was called in. The DHS removed the child, and opened its own investigation.
Ryan Smith, 25, and Erika Pipkin, 30, both of West Union, were arrested and charged with child endangerment exposure of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to authorities, the case remains under investigation continues. They said more arrests and charges are possible.
