The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Waterloo on Tuesday (Nov. 2, 2015).

According to the DCI, the incident began downtown near Young Arena around 3 p.m. when Waterloo police observed a wanted suspect driving on Mullan Avenue (U.S. Highway 63 southbound). Officers identified the driver as Brandon Seeley, 24, who had a valid arrest warrant for a probation violation for possession with intent to deliver marijuana out of Jones County.

The DCI said a pursuit began when Seeley refused to stop his vehicle and a chase began. Officers pursued Seeley to the area of West 4th and Wellington streets, where the suspect turned his vehicle and drove at an officer who had exited his squad car. The Waterloo police officer fired at Seeley, but he drove away from the area despite being injured.

According to information in a DCI news release, Waterloo officers continued to pursue Seeley. The chase ended in the 300 block of S. Hacket Road when Seeley exited his vehicle and ran into a garage. That's where police captured him.

Seeley was transported to Unity Point-Allen Hospital in Waterloo with gunshot wounds and remains in custody. No Waterloo police officers were injured during the incident.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the officer involved in the shooting.
