Cale Morris came within two minutes of a shutout as the Waterloo Black Hawks topped the Chicago Steel 4-1 at Fox Valley Ice Arena Friday (Mar. 18, 2016).

The Hawks netminder stopped 18 of 19 opposing chances; the only puck which eluded him came of the stick of the Steel’s Jake Jaremko with 1:25 to go. By that point, Waterloo had built a 4-0 lead.

The Black Hawks cashed in during a power play for the only goal of the first 40 minutes when Ronnie Hein slipped a pass to Zach Yon, and from just outside the crease, Yon lifted his shot into an open side at 12:51 of the opening period.

During a four-on-four situation 3:10 into the third, Ryan Lohin added an insurance goal, redirecting a Sam McCormick feed while standing at the top of the crease. Lohin then set up Yon’s second of the game at 12:22, passing through the right wing circle, and creating an opportunity which Yon finished by banging in his own rebound after Daniel Vladar had made the first save. Kevin Charyszyn added an empty-netter with 1:43 to go.

The Hawks conclude a three-game road trip Saturday visiting the Dubuque Fighting Saints at Mystique Ice Center.
