CV Sports Weekend Preview

The NFL Playoffs highlight a busy weekend for Cedar Valley sports fans.  The Hawkeyes, Cyclones, Panthers, Knights, and Black Hawks all have a busy sports calendar too.  All schools will see their men’s and women’s basket ball teams take to the hardwood, and their wrestling teams all have big match ups this weekend.

NFL Playoffs:

  • AFC Championship: New England Patriots at Denver Broncos – Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Denver; 2 p.m. (CT) on CBS
  • NFC Championship: San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks – CenturyLink Field, Seattle; 5:30 p.m. (CT) on FOX

Iowa Hawkeyes

  • Men’s basketball host the Golden Gophers of Minnesota on Sunday (12:00 noon)
  • Women’s basket travel to Ohio State (2:00 p.m.)
  • Wrestling look to shuck the Huskers in Lincoln this Saturday (4:30 p.m.)

 

Iowa State Cyclones

  • Men’s basketball travel to Texas to battle with the Longhorns on Saturday (3:00 p.m.)
  • Women’s basketball hit Kansas to play K-State (7:00 p.m.)
  • Wrestling hit the mats in Ames to take on Rutgers (7:00 p.m.)

 

University of Northern Iowa Panthers:

  • Men’s basketball host Missouri State Saturday (12:00 noon)
  • Women’s basketball travel to Wichita State this Saturday (5:45 p.m.)
  • Wrestling has a Sunday dual at Oklahoma (2:00 p.m.)

 

Wartburg Knights:

  • Wrestling competes at the IIAC Duals in Storm Lake, IA
  • Men & Women basketball hosts Coe College Saturday (Women – 2:00 p.m., Men – 4:00 p.m.)

 

Waterloo Black Hawks:

  • Friday the Black Hawks will be in Youngstown, Ohio to play the Phatoms.
  • Saturday they stop in Ann Arbor, Michigan to take on Team USA.
  • Coach O’Handley will be trying to match the USHL record for coaching victories tonight when the Black Hawks visit the Youngstown Phantoms.  He currently has 528, one behind Mike Hastings (formerly of the Omaha Lancers).  All of Coach O’Handley’s victories have come with either the Black Hawks or the North Iowa Huskies.
