Week 7 Area High School Football Schedule

With three weeks remaining in the Iowa high school football regular season, the playoff picture will become more focused Friday night (Oct. 7, 2016).

There’s a full schedule of games involving teams from the Cedar Valley and northeast Iowa. Several of the match-ups have district championship and post-season implications.

In Class-4A, sole possession of first-place in District 5 is on the line when seventh-ranked Waterloo West (6-0 overall) plays at Cedar Falls (4-2). The district co-leaders are the only squads left in the six-team group without a district loss.

A few miles south of Cedar Falls, Hudson is playing its biggest game in 22 years. The eighth-ranked Pirates (6-0) host No. 2 and defending state champion Gladbrook-Reinbeck (6-0) in a Class-A District 5 battle. The game features two of the district's three unbeaten teams.

In Class-2A, Dike-New Hartford (4-2) hosts Roland-Story (5-1) in a battle for supremacy in District 5. Both teams are 4-0 in district play heading into Friday night's game at the Gunderson Sports Complex in Dike.

Elsewhere around northeast Iowa, there are other marquee games with serious playoff implications involving area teams. Two of the three teams tied for first in Class-2A District 4 square off at Upper Iowa's Harms-Eischeid Stadium in Fayette, where Waukon (5-1, 4-0 hosts No. 2 La Porte City Union (6-0, 4-0). Other key match-ups include Clayton Ridge (5-1, 4-0) at Bellevue (5-1, 4-0), the co-leaders of Class-1A District 3; and No. 2 Turkey Valley (6-0, 3-0) hosting Northwood-Kensett (3-3, 3-1), the top teams in 8-player District 2.

Two teams that were scheduled to meet Friday night in Class-2A District 4 will be idle. Waterloo Columbus Catholic (1-5, 1-3) is forfeiting its game to top-ranked North Fayette Valley (6-0, 4-0) due to safety concerns. (For more details on forfeit, CLICK HERE.)
