Bucks Regain Division Lead With Shutout Victory
The Waterloo Bucks recorded their second shutout of the season, beating Duluth 6-0 on the road Saturday night (June 24, 2017).
The victory, combined with a St. Cloud loss, moved the Bucks (18-7) back into first place in the Northwoods League's North Division. They lead the Rox (18-8) by a half game.
Saturday's battle at Duluth (13-12) featured a pitching showdown for the first three innings. The stalemate finally ended when Waterloo pushed runs across the plate in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring each of time on wild pitches.
Ryan Garcia (1-0) tossed five scoreless innings and struck out five batters in his pitching debut for the Bucks, who added to their 2-0 advantage with a three-run sixth inning. Dalton Hurd led off the frame with a double, then scored on a single by Ian Nelson. Later, Zach Malis laced a run-scoring double down the first base line and Stover drove in the third run on a sacrifice fly to center field. Waterloo led 5-0 after six innings.
The Bucks added a run in the ninth inning, scoring on a sacrifice fly to center field by Hurd.
