Wartburg’s Ranking Drops Despite Unbeaten Record
Wartburg dropped two spots in this week's d3football.com national rankings, despite staying unbeaten with Saturday's 31-14 victory over Coe.
The Knights (5-0 overall, 2-0 IIAC), who had been ranked sixth in each of the previous polls released this season, dropped to No. 8 in the latest survey released on Sunday (Oct. 11, 2015). The ratings shake-up was the result of a major upset in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).
Wisconsin-Oshkosh (4-1 overall, 2-0 WIAC) jumped 10 spots from No. 15 to No. 5 following Saturday's stunning 10-7 upset of top-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater, which ended the nation's longest winning streak at 36 games. The streak had been the longest active run in all of college football and was the sixth-longest streak in NCAA Division III history.
The two-time defending national champion Warhawks (4-1 overall, 1-1 WIAC) lost for the first time since Oct. 27, 2012. One of their victories in the historic streak came against Wartburg in the quarterfinals of the 2014 NCAA Division III playoffs.
Following Saturday's loss, Whitewater fell to No. 6 in the rankings. Mount Union replaced the Warhawks in the No. 1 spot.
