The UNI Panthers are expected to have some new competition when they battle for championships in the Missouri Valley Conference starting this fall.

The league has decided to add Valparaiso as a 10th member, according to a statement released by the Missouri Valley Conference via twitter Tuesday morning (May 9, 2017).

Valparaiso is expected to accept the MVC's invitation and join the 110-year-old league on July 1. According to the Des Moines Register and other media outlets, conference officials were also considering Murray State, Nebraska-Omaha and Milwaukee. Presidents at the MVC's nine current schools voted on Valparaiso's membership Monday night and, in doing so, decided to keep the conference as a 10-team league.

The Crusaders would replace Wichita State, which announced it's departure from the MVC last month. The Shockers accepted an invitation to join The American Athletic Conference (AAC), effective July 1.

Valparaiso is current member of the Horizon League in all sports expect football and bowling.
