UNI Signee Rucker Leads North Scott To Victory

North Scott got the Class 4A tournament part of the 2017 Iowa High School Girls State Basketball Tournament started with a convincing victory.

Returning to the field after a two-year absence, North Scott relied on its quickness to roll past tournament veteran Nevada 57-27 and gain a spot in Friday's semifinal round.

Northern Iowa signee Karli Rucker led the eighth-ranked Lancers with 20 points, sophomore Rylie Rucker scored 13 and freshman Presley Case added 10. Karli Rucker also had seven rebounds and four assists, while Case, another of the fine freshman guards playing this week, handed out six assists.

Nevada moved up a class after finishing second in the 3A tournament last year and winning it all in 2015.

The second-ranked Cubs came in with a 22-game winning streak and jumped to a 13-8 lead. But North Scott came back with a 21-2 run to open a 29-15 halftime lead and was in control the rest of the way.

Junior center Lexy Koudelka led the Cubs with 13 points and 13 rebounds and Claire Ausman scored seven.

North Scott, which plays mostly 5A schools in the Mississippi Athletic Conference, takes a 19-5 record into its semifinal at 10 a.m. Friday. Nevada finishes 22-2.
